Whiteboard Wednesday 10

Whiteboard Wednesday 10

Amber Kennoy: [00:00:02] Well for Whiteboard Wednesday we are field tripping it again with Jamie Clark of Synergy Home. So talking about this right here as we go into spring.

Jamie Clark: [00:00:11] So last week we talked about how important it was to keep your outdoor unit, but that’s only half the equation. The indoor portion of your air conditioner, your furnace, which is the fan for the air conditioner. And then this guy here, which is called the evaporator coil, this cabinet here is the number one place in your house for mold to grow. So we recommend putting ultraviolet lights in there. If you put ultraviolet in there, mold can’t grow. When we come through your spring and your fall tune up, we’re always going to check your filter. We always recommend having a nice, great big four inch cartridge filter like this. The one inch filters that you typically see with your furnace that’s meant to protect the blower. That’s not to protect your air quality. So if you care about indoor air quality, we always want a four inch medium cabinet. And then when we do our maintenance, we come out and clean all the drains so we don’t have any backups, test all the electrical, make sure that everything is good and running. If you do annual maintenance, you’re only 2% likely to have the system fail on you during a breakdown or extreme use.

Amber Kennoy: [00:01:02] Now, there’s a lot of people, though I think they live their life by if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

Jamie Clark: [00:01:07] Well, just like changing the oil in your car. You know, a heating cooling system today is one of the most expensive purchases in your home. It’s very important to make sure you take care of it. So spring and fall cleaning is going to make it perform better. It’s going to help your capacity. It’s going to help with your indoor air quality, and it’s going to make the system last a lot longer. So you’re not having to replace it every eight or nine years. This system here is over ten years old. I’ve had it on annual maintenance ever since we first installed it and it runs like it’s brand new.

Amber Kennoy: [00:01:32] Yeah. And if you don’t do your due diligence of helping keep your system operating, well, it could bite you later.

Jamie Clark: [00:01:38] Yes. Most manufacturers today will void your warranty if the major repair happens due to negligence and not maintenance. So that maintenance that you do every year, it’s not only for your benefit, but it’s making sure you’re protecting yourself from a warranty perspective as well.

Amber Kennoy: [00:01:51] All right, if they have any questions?
