With cold weather here, your heating system is critical to keep your family safe and warm. If you haven’t had your system serviced yet this season, now is a great time to schedule your maintenance.
We recommend replacing your air filters every quarter, as it’s the easiest way to maintain healthy air quality, keep your energy costs down, and extend the life of your HVAC unit.
This time of year, take time to ensure that your outdoor heat pump unit is clear of debris and that the unit has at least 10 inches of space on all sides, plus 36 inches of clearance above. This ensures maximum heat transfer and allows your heat pump to operate at maximum efficiency. Also check that your furnace exhaust is clear, as this could cause the unit to shutdown.
#1: Disconnect Your Hose from the Spigot and Test Your Sump Pump
Even if they are advertised as freeze-proof, you must disconnect the hose from the spigot – otherwise, water can become trapped in the valve and freeze, causing it to burst.
Winters in central Kentucky usually bring more rain than snow, which can put stress on your sump pump – before you need it, pour a couple gallons of water into the pump pit and test that it’s working.
